Overcome your mind

Your mind can be your greatest strength or your biggest weakness. The good part is that you are in control. The hard part? Learning how to regulate your emotions and overcome your mind.

Many of us struggle with insecurities, self doubt and lack of motivation. Learning how to work past these limiting beliefs can be very difficult, yet very rewarding. But how do we do it?

The first thing you can do is learn how to ignore the little mean voice that is constantly telling you that are not good enough. You do not need to be perfect to overcome your mind, you just need to create a mute button. Let me explain. The little mean voice will never go away so we need to notice it early and tell it to shut up! But how do we do this? We need to have positive affirmations ready to tell ourselves once we’ve muted the little mean voice. The only way to keep the negative thoughts out is to replace them with positive ones.

The second thing we can do is keep busy. As the old saying goes “An idle mind is the devil’s playground”. Have you ever noticed how you tend to overeat when you’re bored, yet you can go all day without eating when you’re busy? This happens because we are distracted. The same thing happens with our mind. If you are constantly sitting around not doing anything, the little mean voice decides that it’s time to play. And it does not play nice. In order to prevent this from happening, we must keep ourselves busy. That does not mean that you should not rest, but make sure that you constantly have a goal or healthy hobby to keep your mind busy.

Third, you must learn to how celebrate the small wins. We are so used to chasing the next shiny object, that we forget to give ourselves credit for the things that we accomplish every day. Did you make your bed? Stay on track with your nutrition? Move your body? Survive another crazy day of motherhood? All of these are wins in my book. Giving yourself credit for these small wins builds confidence. However, don’t get too comfortable. Give yourself credit, but also don’t underestimate how much more you are capable of.

Lastly, set some goals. If there is something that you want to accomplish, set a goal, write it to down and decide what steps you have to take to reach your goal. Break the steps down into bite sized tasks that are challenging yet doable. Now, incorporate them into your schedule. This will look different everybody depending on what stage of life you’re in. Keep in mind that consistency is better than working hard for one week and then falling off for three.

In conclusion, you are stronger than you think. You are capable of hard things. You have overcome challenges in past and you will continue to overcome things in the future. Just remember to mute the little mean voice and keep repeating positive affirmations. The more small wins you add up, the more confidence you will build in yourself.
