When you’re winning in one area, you’re losing in another (and that’s okay!)
Have you ever admired someone because they seem to have it all together? The reality is that it’s highly unlike that this person has a perfect life. Whether you know them in real life or following them on social media, you’re only seeing bits and pieces of their life. Here are a few reminders before you set unrealistic expectations for yourself.
First thing to consider is the fact that we’re all in different stages of life. As an empty nester, I have a lot more free time than my friends with young kids. Many things can affect our ability to get things done such as work schedules, family, health and discipline. That’s why it’s so important to give yourself grace and STOP COMPARING!
Another factor is your talents or ability to get things done. One person might be able to clean the entire house in a few hours while another person might need to break it up into smaller daily tasks. Doing groceries and cooking dinner might be your favorite part of your day, while someone else has to spend hours researching how to cook a meal just to end up with another FAIL! All while helping 3 kids with homework, bathing them and putting them to bed at a decent time.
The important thing to keep in mind is that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to be good at everything. If you’re focusing on working out consistently, your house chores may fall behind. Working overtime to pay off debt means you may not get to spend as much time with your family as you would like. As a single Mom it’s a lot harder to prioritize yourself than a Mom with a helpful husband. Do what you can! Nobody should expect you to be perfect.
As women, we tend to demand a lot from ourselves. Regardless of your current situation, keep in mind that you don’t have to be winning in every area of your life. It’s all about finding your balance and keeping your sanity. It’s ok to put some things on the back burner temporarily. Stop being so hard on yourself or speak up and ask for help! You don’t have to do everything yourself.
If you struggle with comparison and feel like you can’t find a way to balance everything in your life, I would love to hear from you. Let’s come up with a plan to make your life feel a little less chaotic. You got this!
